Cats should be vaccinated to protect against cat flu, feline panleukopaenia and feline leukaemia. Cats travelling on the Pet Passport Scheme must also be vaccinated against rabies.
For our cattery we require minimum of cat flu vaccination within the last 12months. We highly recommend vaccinating against Feline Leukaemia Virus (FeLV) also. FeLV is spread through the saliva of others cats.
As a kitten, cats require two vaccinations 3-4 weeks apart usually. Most vaccines require the cat to be a minimum of 9weeks old for their first vaccine to ensure maternal antibodies have reduced. Your cat is not fully protected until after the second vaccination. Older cats that have no record of vaccination require two vaccinations 3-4weeks apart also.
It is not recommended that cats go outdoors or visit catteries until after their second vaccination as they will not be fully protected.
All vets will give a vaccination certificate showing your cats vaccinations (date, what vaccines were given and the due date for next vaccine). It’s important to bring this with you for each visit to keep it updated. If you are planning a holiday, make sure your vaccine card is up to date. If it needs updating, your vet can do this for you. ….don’t leave it until last minute incase your cats vaccinations have lapsed.
Bring your vaccination card every time you visit the cattery also so we can ensure the vaccinations are kept up to date. This is for your cats protection and to protect other cats staying with us.
